My wine bottle lady from FreeCycle comes through with a bag of cobalt blue bottles!  Now I think my small bottle tree will be finally filled!  I'm off to clean off lables.

A Bag Full Of Joy For Me

Getting ready for the birds this winter.  A new feeder on the house wall.  The birds drink water out of it now.  Hoping they will come back in the winter to find the seeds we are going to have ready.  According to the Farmers Almanac we should be seeing snow showers mid Nov.

Getting Ready

. Wednesday, October 21, 2015 .
By the looks of both of my hands it looks like I have been painting the Sistine Chapel.  Spray paint doesn't come off so easy.  I started out with a bright yellow.  Almost finished and I ran out of paint. Dang it!  So the black can had the most paint so that is what it is going to be, black.  I hung it in the dogwood tree and was having a great time...just singing away, enjoying the fresh air and BAM...the stinking thing fell off the pole and out of the tree.  Now it is covered with brown leaves and old grass.  I tried to pick it off and that's where the paint covered fingertips come in.  Tomorrow when it is dry I'll pick all the junk off and repaint.  So the girls are going to have a new feeder by the weekend.  Now to scour the backyard for just the right place to hang it.  Then I will need to talk Chickie Pa into hanging it for us.

Thanks again Betsyco!

She's Starting To Look Like Something

. Friday, October 2, 2015 .
Over the last week or so all my friends on FB that now me and know what I love, have sent me a picture of a purplish blue chandelier feeding station that some one made for their chickens.  I have been on the look out for one ever since I got the first picture.  So last night when Dewey and Betsyco were here for our Thursday Night Dinner Party and haircutting appointment, Bets just happened to mention that they were going to the Camboni Mission Sale today.  I ask her to be on the lookout for a chandelier.  This morning at exactly 9:45AM I get a text with a pic in it....

OH MY GOSH are you kidding me!!!
PERFECT!!!  Marked down half price!!!  To me it is priceless.  The girls are going to love it!  Now the two big decisions...what color to spray paint it and where to hang it.  Love it Bets!!!!

The Girls Are Going To Love It!

Mark says the house is full of stuff.  I strongly disagree...it is full of treasures!  Treasures because it makes my heart happy that people think of me when they see certain things.  Take this chicken for example,  one of my 'scout buddies' gave it to me at the scout meeting this week.  It was white and I pray painted it black so the eggs would shoe up better.  I love it.  And my cobalt blue bottles and things.  The little blue squatty one in the front came from one of Mark's buddies from high school who works at Dartmouth and loves yard sales.  The Chinese/Japanese lantern plant came from Betsy so I could harvest the seeds and start my own plants.

I love my treasures.  And I am thankful and blessed by each person that shares.

But I think I might be in trouble if we ever downsize!

Sweet Treasure

I have been cleaning all the fingerprints off the walls and windows, cleaning out from under sinks, going through drawers and cleaning out...look what I found!

It's just the little things that make me smile.

Makes Me Smile

. Thursday, June 25, 2015 .
I have a friend that has an 'addiction' to yard sales on line.  I think we might need to do an intervention.  She dropped this off the other day.  Love it but I won't use it as a bee catcher.  I'm trying to attract bees to the yard to help with pollination not to kill them.  Think I could make this into a vase by gluing the cork in the bottom hole.  It look great on the table under the pergola!

This same friend found me a little bluebird too.  thanks Ronda, I love them both!

A few months ago we went in a little shop in Old Milford called Gardenia.  Love it.  I could just sit in there and listen to the music and the water fountains.  But in their garden room I saw this and Mark said we could probably make some.  We had to have it to see the pattern, right!

....who is extremely gifted when it comes to making things with her hands.  It doesn't matter what it is, everything she makes is awesome.  So I was visiting with her and the old people, (my dad and my two crazy aunts) and I asked about some wood that she had stacked in her back yard.  She had just finished building the most gorgeous house.  To build the house she had to tear down her grandparents house.  She saved some of the wood thinking she would do something with it someday.  I am so glad she did and that she was willing to share.

Of course some of it had to come home with me.  I knew exactly what we were going to make.  I am so excited about it.

I get my trusty helper out in the cold...

We measured.  We cut.  We get it almost put together and something is wrong.  Our angles are off.  And if your angles are off by just a smidge you are in trouble.  We are in trouble.  We used up pretty much all of the wood trying to get it right.  I called in outside help.  Dave had trouble getting the angles just right.  So in the garage I have four pieces of wood to put together and no one wants to help me finish the project.  It will be awesome when it is finished.  Just not sure when that will be.

I Have A Cousin....

This aren't actually trash picked treasures but treasures picked up out of my Dad's yard.

This only pump has a story...it is from the inside kitchen sink of a house that was being torn down on 16th Street in Huntington, WV.  My dad's buddy knew my dad liked stuff like this so he told him about it.  They went and got it.  My dad says they had an old Hoosier that he would have loved to have taken but he didn't have any room at the house for it.  I wish he had gotten it too.

This is a repurposing story.  We bought these big stones a few years ago when we put in the fountain by the kitchen window.  Since getting the girls we have worn a path through the yard to the coops.  Not a pretty look at all.  I was cleaning out the leaves in the flower bed and decided on a whim to take out the fountain and use the big rocks as a bath back to the girls. Yesterday we cut out around them and sunk them into the ground.  We plan to find smaller ones to go between the larger ones.  I think it makes a nice path.  Better hurry up and get the project finished...we are on year 9 of the 10 yard backyard makeover plan.

Didn't need tog o to far for this one...just 6 doors up the street.  I love having to go out after dark.  That's a great time to pick.  But if there is one thing I have learned...if you see it and you know you can do something with it...take it on the spot.  Don't wait until you make the return trip because someone else will beat you to it.  This watering can is to add to Mark's collection.

Ahhhhh YES!

I was thinking the other day that I haven't seen many Blue Jays in the yard lately.  Well couldn't be that we haven't been feeding them.  While looking for my seeds I found the chicken feeder from when the girls were small.  Then that night, a very late night, I found this on Pinterest.  So I have my camera ready!

New Feeder

. Thursday, March 12, 2015 .
Pickin' has been a little slim.  I think because of the weather.  The other night I missed a good pick when I decided to drop Michael off at scouts and then swing back by after.  I hate when that happens.  Lesson learned...strike while the iron is hot.

Picked up this old ladder last summer and have been using it for the chickens to learn to climb on.  They never seemed interested so we hung it on the fence.  Mark has been collecting watering cans.  And I collect anything that is galvanized.  We combined the two.  Once the weather is nicer we will plant something that vines in the minnow bucket so it can wrap around everything.  The watering cans will serve two purposes...decoration and water gathering when it rains.  I plan to use the water that is caught on the flowers on the fence in that area.

I get more comments on the boots that anything I this shot.  Great way to clean them after being on the farm.  I have decided that all of the galvanized buckets and tubs will be planted this year with herbs and flowers that will benefit the chickens.  They will look and smell great and save me a little money in the long run!  I think it is a win-win all around.

This will be the only kind of rooster I will ever have...one that doesn't make any noise.

Perking Thing Up A Bit

Going to be stopping at St. Vincent, Goodwill, and yard sales over the next year looking for old sweaters.   Plan on making these for the tree and maybe for decorations on the gifts.

And then I saw some warm mittens made from old sweaters....

Just Thinking I Might

Borrowed from Those Crafty Sisters

Yes, Yes, and Yes Again!

. .
I have been wanting to hang one of our wooden chairs on the wall since over break when Cassie and I were watching my new favorite DYI...can't remember the name of the show but the couple that rehabs and flips old houses is really good and have the same taste as I do.  In one of the first episodes we watched, she hung an old wooden chair on the wall.  I loved it!  I just happened to have four wooden chairs that have been hanging on the wall in the garage since we first moved in about 8 years ago.  The light bulb went off in Cassie's head first.  Thinking I should go out and count how many are still hanging...one or two might have made their way to IN recently.

I love it!.

The board is cut from the bottom of a snowman thing that one of my friends had in a rummage sale that she game me for helping out.  So you may be wondering where the snowman thing is now...

He stands proudly as my new snow measuring person!
